摘要: AIMToascertainperformanceagainstthestandardssetbyNationalInstituteforClinicalExcellence(NICE)guidelinesonphysicalhealthmonitoringofthirtychildrenandadolescentsprescribedantipsychoticsinneurodevelopmentalclinicsinNorthumberlandandidentifyingareasforimprovementinpractice.METHODSTheauditinvolvedareviewofrecordeddocumentationpertainingtophysicalhealthmonitoringinpatientelectronicrecordspertainingtochildrenandadolescentsattendingneurodevelopmentalclinicsinNorthumberlandprescribedantipsychotics.Clientswerealsocontactedbytelephoneifrelevantdocumentationcouldnotbeidentifiedorretrievedtoconfirmthedetails.32casenoteswereperusedofwhich2wereexcludedastheyhadrefusedtohavevenepuncturewhichwasdocumentedintheelectronicrecords.RESULTSTheoverallauditresultsdemonstratedpartialcompliancewithNICEguidelinesonphysicalhealthmonitoringinchildrenandadolescentsprescribedantipsychotics.Bi-annualrecordingofheight,weight,bloodpressure,pulserateandreviewofsideeffectswascompletedin100%ofsubjects.However,annualmonitoringforbloodtestsincludingliverfunction,renalfunctionfullbloodcountaswellasbiannualmonitoringofserumprolactin,serumlipidprofilewascompletedonlyin56%ofsubjects.Comparativebaselinecharacteristicsbetweenthetwogroups(compliantandnon-compliantwithguidelines)foundnodifferencesbasedonanysocio-demographicorclinicalvariables.However,theproportionofpatientsinthegroupcomplianttoguidelineswashigherintheagegroupof12-17yearsascomparedto<12years(70.58%vs38.46%),thoughnotstatisticallysignificant(χ~2=1.236;P=0.24).CONCLUSIONDevelopmentoftailoredandspecificguidelinesforphysicalhealthmonitoringinchildrenandadolescentsprescribedantipsychoticstakingintoconsiderationclinicaleffectivenessandsafetyprofileislikelytoimproveadherencerates. ...
